Abstract

Indonesian territory which is located at the confluence of three large tectonic plates in the world makes Indonesian territory very vulnerable to seismic activity. Because seismic activity usually occurs at plate boundaries. In the subduction zone of the island of Java, the Australian plate which moves north pushes the Sunda plate and goes under the Sunda plate. This happens because the Sunda plate is flexible while the Australian plate is rigid. Interaction between the two plates can indicate locking in the subduction zone. This research analyzes the vertical velocity vector pattern of the InaCORS station in East Java using the scientific software GAMIT 10.7. Then the pattern is associated with the existence of locking in the South East Java subduction zone and the Banyuwangi earthquake area (M7,8) in 1994. The results of this study are the velocity movement of the vertical component at the InaCORS station worth -6 mm / year up to 9 mm / year. From these results, it can be concluded that the southern East Java InaCORS station did not experience elastic deformation and could not detect any locking in the subduction zone.
